Nord Gear’ further production line
Nord Gear has added a further production line at its Abingdon-based assembly and service facility, expanding its same-day assembly service to Nordbloc 1 series gear motors.
The Nordbloc 1 series helical inline gear motors delivers torque output to 640Nm and motor ratings up to 9.2kW.
The new GBP100K assembly line includes the inventory investment for all the component parts required for fast delivery throughout the Nordbloc 1 gear motor range.
A self-contained production unit, complete with a custom-built hydraulic press, motor test station, bench parts and assembly tools allows a skilled technician to hand-build each gearmotor to high standards within hours from receipt of order.
The process includes full quality control and is completely integrated into Nord’s MRP system and online ordering service.
The Abingdon facility has six similar production units and a paint shop that provides the fast assembly service for a large proportion of Nord’s industrial gear motor range, which includes helical parallel shaft, helical bevel and helical worm designs up to 200000Nm with motors, inverters and servo controls also available.
The Nordbloc 1 gear motor range was introduced in 2007 and is based upon the Unicase design.
The Unicase one-piece housing provides higher strength and less deflection than fabricated gearbox designs, and with minimal sealing eliminates the potential for oil leakage under high load conditions.
The high-efficiency Nordbloc 1 range features larger and stronger bearings for a higher overhung and thrust load capacity as well as much improved gearbox lifetime.
The modular range covers foot- and face-mount versions with industrial standard dimensions and B5/B14 mounting.
Design optimisation has also extended to compact and space-saving IEC flange adapters for motor sizes 63-90, which reduce overall length but are interchangeable with older models.
The range available for fast turnaround includes five-gear unit designs, typically each with more than 30 ratio choices from 1.88:1 to more than 400:1 in two- and three-stage reductions with efficiency up to 96 per cent.
Single and three-phase motors in two-, four- and six-pole winding configurations and EFF1 and EFF2 ratings are fully stocked and ATEX versions for hazardous environments are also available.
The Nordbloc range also extends to four larger cast-iron models for up to 3200Nm output torque, which are available on fast turnaround from Nord’s German manufacturing headquarters.
